Citizens from Peru can now apply for a Work and Holiday visa to Australia

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) recently announced that Australia and Peru have implemented a reciprocal agreement, which permits up to 100 young Australian and Peruvian citizens to apply for a Work and Holiday visa to each country.

This means that Peruvian youths can apply for a work and holiday visa to Australia and, likewise, young Australians can apply for a work and holiday visa to Peru.

This new agreement states that successful applicants are allowed to stay in each other’s country for extended holidays and take on casual employment to fund their travels. Applicants are also permitted to undertake short-term study too.

As of the 1st of October 2017, hopeful applicants can now submit their applications to the DIBP.

Many nations have joined the list of appointed countries in the Work and Holiday program in 2017. Hungary, Luxembourg and San Marino joined the ranks in January, while Vietnam followed suit in March.

Ecuador signed its agreement in February but has not been implemented yet by either country.

Australia now has reciprocal Work and Holiday agreements in place with over 20 countries including:

Argentina
Bangladesh
Chile
China, People's Republic of
Hungary
Indonesia
Israel
Luxembourg
Malaysia
Poland
Portugal
San Marino
Slovak Republic
Slovenia
Spain
Thailand
Turkey
USA
Uruguay

Similar to the Peru agreement, there is a limited number of Work and Holiday visas issued every year for most countries.

The current age requirement for applicants currently remains between 18 – 30 years old, though the Australian Government is considering raising the limit from 30 to 35. However, no official announcements to increase the age limit have been made.
